Police in south-central Vietnam’s Ninh Thuan Province have transferred a Russian murder suspect wanted by Interpol to Russian authorities after arresting him while he was hiding in the province’s Phan Rang-Thap Cham City.
The wanted man, Borzykh Mikhail, 38, a Russian national, was detained on March 22 during a raid by police officers on his temporary residence in the city’s Van Hai Ward, the provincial police department reported on Sunday.
The raid was made in coordination with the immigration office under the department, based on a tip-off from local residents who noticed suspicious signs from the foreign man, according to Cong An Nhan Dan (People’s Public Security) newspaper.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security previously directed police forces nationwide to hunt for and arrest the suspect as per Interpol’s wanted notice.
In conjunction with the ministry, the department carried out procedures to hand the suspect over to Russian authorities at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on March 23.
The man will be escorted on a flight home by Russian police for investigation.
After allegedly committing a murder in Russia, the suspect fled abroad in February this year before entering Vietnam early this month and temporarily residing in the country, local police said.
