Nguyen Quoc Doanh, a ride-hailing driver and delivery worker, offered free gasoline to a foreign man who had run out of fuel on a street in Ho Chi Minh City.
Doanh, originally from Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam, has been thanked by dozens of local netizens for his good deed.
According to Doanh, the foreigner was pushing his motorbike down the street in Thu Duc City, an administrative district under Ho Chi Minh City, on the evening of May 19.
“I saw him pushing his motorbike and decided that I would help if the vehicle stalled or ran out of gasoline. If he was pushing [the motorbike] because of a flat tire, there would have been nothing I could do,” Doanh said, adding that he always does his best to help others whenever he can.
The foreigner signaled to Doanh that he was out of gasoline and asked him to help push the vehicle. Instead, Doanh offered the foreigner a free bottle of gasoline.
Even after the foreigner tried to pay, Doanh kept repeating 'no money' and 'free.'
A video of the interaction has since gone viral on social media.

Doanh said he wanted to keep it as a memory and use it to spread a positive image of Vietnamese people to foreigners.
“Through the video, I want to spread love and positivity. No matter what you do, whether you are rich or poor, you will face difficulties in life, but there will always be a good person willing to help you,” Doanh said.
He often carries a backup bottle of gasoline on his motorbike, just in case he needs it to help himself or others.
In the past, he also helped to give free rides to a local cotton swap seller who was old and unable to transport himself.
Doanh began working as a ride-hailing driver and delivery worker after the COVID-19 pandemic. Before that, he ran his own business.
According to Doanh, as ride-hailing drivers are service providers, they should do their best to leave good impressions on customers.
He shared that he appreciates the job as it helps him overcome his own difficulties
In 2022, he opened a TikTok account named 'Xe om 5 sao' (five-star motorbike taxi).
He said he filmed videos to store memories and beautiful scenes from the city streets.
