Many road users in Ho Chi Minh City have been soaked with dirty water, or even fallen because of soapsuds overflowing from vehicle washing shops along the roadside.

These facilities also release untreated wastewater into nearby sewers.

At a vehicle washing shop on Street No. 14 in Thu Duc City, a district-level administration unit in Ho Chi Minh City, an employee often unintentionally splashes water on many road users.

As the shop is less than one meter from the street, its dirty water often collects in the middle of the roadway.

It is worse when the shop uses foam cannons.

Many people were angry, honking their vehicles’ horns and looking askance at the shop, but the motorbike cleaner still did his job and seemed to take little heed of the impact of his acts on passers-by.

The daily number of vehicles washed there is unknown, but many people are affected by water and foam splashes.

Another vehicle washing shop on Pham Van Bach Street in Go Vap District is also a nightmare for nearby drivers.

After it operates for about 15 minutes, wastewater and foam stagnate in front of the shop, creating a slippery mess.

The area is slick, posing danger to vehicles passing through it.

Chau, a resident of Go Vap, said that he and his children often got wet from water splashes while on the way to school.

These splashes would blur his glasses, causing him and his children to fall onto the street.

These vehicle washing shops also release untreated wastewater together with dirt, lubricant, and soap to sewers.

Chau suggested local authorities handle these shops so that they would stop discharging raw wastewater into sewers and causing an inconvenience to passers-by.
