A large downpour-triggered landslide occurred in a mountainous commune in northern Vietnam’s Son La Province on early Saturday morning, killing one local and injuring three others, local authorities reported.
The deadly incident happened at around 4:00 am in Ta Xua Commune in the province’s Bac Yen District, with a mass of soil and rock falling down from a mountain and burying two homestay establishments nearby.
One of these facilities, Mando, was covered totally while the other was partly buried.
Ten households located near the two establishments were also affected by the landslide, local authorities reported.

Immediately after the disaster, the district authorities mobilized about 300 people and deployed necessary vehicles and equipment to the scene for rescue operations.
After hours of search, rescuers had found one dead body and three injured people from the debris by 11:00 am the same day.
The wounded victims were taken to Bac Yen District General Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to the provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue, there was no rain in Ta Xua on Friday, but heavy rains from several days ago triggered the deadly landslide.
Earlier on Monday, after another landslide occurred in the same commune, the district police warned locals of the high risk of more landslides, put up warning signs, and called on all households to evacuate from landslide-prone areas to safe places.
