The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City air route took the lead in a list of the top 10 busiest domestic flight routes in Southeast Asia in August 2024, according to data from OAG, the world's leading provider of digital flight information, intelligence, and analytics for airports, airlines, and travel tech companies.
The data are based on the number of seats sold on flights.
Accordingly, the busiest route had some 949,250 total seats purchased, followed by the Jakarta - Makassar route in Indonesia with more than 569,520 seats sold in August.
The Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang - Hanoi routes were in fifth and seventh places in the ranking, respectively.
Other routes in Indonesia and the Philippines were also listed among the top 10 busiest domestic air routes in August.
According to a local air carrier, the north-south air service acts as a key earner of the airline.
The route generates higher revenue and profit than other domestic routes.
The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City air route connects the country’s two largest economic hubs, so demand for travel among businesspeople, workers and tourists is high.
Huge demand also pushes up the airfares on the busiest route.
The price of each air ticket on a flight between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City ranges from VND1.5 million (US$60) to VND3.5 million ($140).
Meanwhile, each ticket on the Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang route is priced from VND1.2 million ($48) to VND2.5 million ($100).

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that local airlines would adjust up the number of flights on several of their domestic air routes during the National Day (September 2) holiday.
Some 4,260 flights will be operated on all domestic air routes from August 30 to September 3 to suit the travel demand of residents, equivalent to 840 flights per day, up three percent compared with the week before the holiday, and 3.5 percent year on year.
