Two of three planned hospital projects will open to the public in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025, while the third was already inaugurated earlier this month, allowing the city to better meet the medical needs of its growing population, according to the municipal Department of Health.

Located in Thu Duc City, Hoc Mon District, and Cu Chi District, the development of Ho Chi Minh City’s newest general hospitals cost a combined VND9,970 billion (US$401 million).

While the hospitals in Thu Duc City and Cu Chi District are slated to open next year, the institution in Hoc Mon District opened to the public in early October.

These new hospitals are meant to replace deteriorated public health facilities in their respective districts which no longer meet public health needs, fall short of current healthcare standards, and are unable to accommodate the massive number of patients overflowing from upper-level hospitals.

Moreover, the new facilities are located at gateways to the city, allowing them to better support hospitals in neighboring locales.

One of the new hospitals – Thu Duc Regional General Hospital, located on Le Van Chi Street in Linh Trung Ward, Thu Duc City – appears to be nearly finished.

According to Dr. Cao Tan Phuoc, construction of the hospital is 90 percent complete and the facility is slated to come on stream by April 30 next year.

With a price tag of VND3,365 billion ($135.4 million), the hospital will feature 10 above-ground floors, one basement, and 1,000 beds upon completion.

T.T.T., an 85-year-old resident of Thu Duc City who suffers from high blood pressure, diabetes, and bone and joint pain, is eager to begin receiving treatment at the new hospital.

“I am really looking forward to the new hospital. I envisions it being spacious, clean, and comfortable," said T.

“The current local hospital is falling apart and doesn’t meet the needs of its patients.”

The VND3,219-billion ($129.5 million) Cu Chi Regional General Hospital, set to include 1,000 beds, will have 13 above-ground floors and one basement.

It is scheduled to begin operations in April 2025.

The Department of Health anticipates that the hospital will meet the growing healthcare needs of both local residents and patients from neighboring areas.

Dr. Dang Quoc Quan, director of the newly opened Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital, announced that the facility began operations earlier this month.

The hospital, which has 12 above-ground floors and two basements, was built at a cost of VND3,386 billion ($136.1 million).

While the 1,000-bed hospital has already begun both in- and out-patient treatments, it is still awaiting the delivery of certain medical equipment.

According to Nguyen Ngoc Thuy, head nurse at Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital, the hospital’s predecessor would consistently flood during heavy rains, forcing doctors and healthcare workers to don boots and wade through the rainwater to treat patients.

Conversely, the new hospital is spacious, clean, and fully equipped to meet the district’s needs.
