Being equipped with motion sensors, the lighting system along Rung Sac Road in Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City will optimize energy efficiency, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and protect the environment, while still ensuring traffic safety and local security.
Can Gio, the only coastal district in the southern metropolis, is home to mangrove forests recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve.
This outlying locale features a dense network of rivers and canals, along with a diverse ecosystem that includes many endemic species of Vietnam's coastal regions.
It is essential to upgrade the infrastructure of Rung Sac Road, the sole route linking Can Gio with the city center.
The upgrade includes significant improvements to the public lighting system.

Public lighting project overview
Rung Sac Road spans 36.5 kilometers in length and has an average width of 30 meters.
The public lighting project covers the entire stretch of the road, from Binh Khanh ferry terminal to the intersection of the road with April 30 Road.
The existing lighting system consists of 944 street lights and 16 control cabinets.
The installation of the public lighting system equipped with motion sensors along Rung Sac Road is aimed at achieving the following objectives:
- Maximizing energy savings: By using motion sensors, lights will only be turned on when vehicles pass by. Since the road has little traffic at night, this will significantly reduce energy consumption.
- Environmental protection: Reducing carbon dioxide emissions while ensuring traffic safety and security in the area.
- User-friendly lighting control system: Allowing for flexible brightness adjustments based on user preferences.
The sensors will communicate with each other using wireless technologies such as Bluetooth Mesh and LoRa Mesh |
Scope of project
- Installation of 944 motion sensors on existing luminaires
- Installation of 921 new street lights equipped with motion sensors in road sections without lighting
Lighting system design
- Adding motion sensors to existing LED street lights
- Installing new sets of LED lights, luminaire poles, and arms equipped with motion sensors where needed
- The motion sensors are available in two types: one directly connects to street lights through the Zhaga Book 18 socket interface available on the lights, while another connects indirectly through a mounting kit on the luminaire pole for lights without the Zhaga Book 18 socket interface
