Dr. Chu Tan Si, head of the neurosurgery department and neuroscience center at Tam Anh Ho Chi Minh City General Hospital JSC, is the first surgeon in Vietnam to perform brain and spinal cord procedures using AI-powered robots.

Thanks to this cutting‐edge technology, countless patients will be given a second chance at life.

Over the past 30 years, he has performed more than 12,000 neurosurgical and cranial procedures.

In the past year alone, 100 surgeries for brain tumors, spinal cord tumors, and hemorrhagic strokes were performed with AI robots, marking a major advancement in the medical application of artificial intelligence.

These groundbreaking procedures represent a historic milestone in his illustrious career.

Born into a large family of eight siblings, his father worked as a driver and his mother as a market vendor. Si helped his family from an early age.

In his youth, he delivered noodles in the morning to assist his mother, and in the afternoon, he carried books to school in pursuit of knowledge. Today, he is one of the top specialists in neurosurgery.

Despite the challenges of his early life, his parents provided unwavering support, and he was fortunate to have an older brother -- a medical lecturer -- who guided him toward his passion for medicine.

Reflecting on the rewards and sacrifices that his career has brought him, he said, “A comfortable life, a respected position, and even my family have all been blessings of this profession. I met my wife and married her in the hospital; both of my children have followed the healthcare path, and even my daughter-in-law works in the same field. I have benefited greatly.

"As for what I sacrificed, it’s just time. I spent too many hours working, but thankfully, my wife and children have always been understanding and supportive.”
