Gymnast Thanh takes home one of four golds for Vietnam today

Artistic gymnast Phan Thi Ha Thanh claimed one of the four gold medals for Team Vietnam on Tuesday to take its haul of golds to 31 at the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore.

Team Vietnam now ranks third in the medal table after the host Singapore with 46 golds and Thailand with 33 golds.

Thanh completed her contest in the women’s vault event with 13.983 points, better than the silver medalist Tang Ing Yueh from Malaysia with 13.466 points.

The Vietnamese bagged three other golds today before the time of writing, with the winners being Tran Phi Hung in the billiards & snooker men’s 1 cushion carom category, Truong Thi Phuong in the women’s 200m canoeing, and Nguyen Van Lai in the men’s 5,000m running.

Hung defeated his compatriot Ma Minh Cam at 100-92 to grab his gold.

Phuong finished her 200m canoeing race within 51.456 seconds, 1.882 seconds faster than a Thai rival.

Lai crossed the finish line of his 5,000m running at 14 minutes 4.82 seconds and broke a SEA Games record.

On Tuesday evening, Vietnamese athletes will play their finals in different events. They include Vu Anh Duy and Phung Van Nam in the men’s 3m synchronized springboard diving, and Nguyen Vu Thao and Nguyen Phuong Anh in the women’s 10m platform diving.

The Vietnamese swimming finalists who will compete tonight are Le Thi My Thao and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien in the women’s 200m butterfly swimming event, Hoang Quy Phuoc in the men’s 100m butterfly, Tran Duy Khoi in the men’s 400m individual medley, and Nguyen Thi Dieu Linh and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien in the women’s 200m freestyle.

Nguyen Van Hung and Nguyen Van Mua will enter the men’s triple jump. Nguyen Van Hue and Nguyen Huy Thai in the men’s high jump decathlon, Truong Thi Thuy Kieu and Pham Thi Hue in the women’s 5,000m athletics, Le Trong Hinh in the men’s 100m athletics, Nguyen Thi Oanh and Luu Kim Phung in the women’s 100m, and Nguyen Van Hue and Nguyen Huy Thai in the men’s 400m decathlon.
