Vietnam will compete with Japan in their last match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers at Saitama Stadium at 5:35 pm on Tuesday (Vietnam time).
The rematch will be aired on Vietnamese national channels VTV5 and VTV6 and FPT Play platform.
Vietnam lost 0-1 to Japan in the first match at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi last November.
While the Golden Stars have no chance left to qualify for the finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after losing eight out of the last nine qualifying games, the Samurai Blue secured qualification by defeating Australia 2-0 in Sydney last Thursday.
In a press conference on Monday, Vietnam's head coach Park Hang Seo stated that some players have been ruled out by COVID-19 or injuries and, as a result, the team traveled to Japan with only 20 footballers.
Japan are a powerhouse, yet Vietnam are determined to do their utmost in the game, Park said.
Striker Nguyen Cong Phuong said although Vietnam are facing various difficulties, all members will spare no efforts to gain the best results.
The final round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers is contested by two groups of six teams.
Group A includes Iran, South Korea, the UAE, Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria while Saudi Arabia, Japan, Australia, China, Oman, and Vietnam make up Group B.
The top two teams from each grouping, including South Korea, Iran, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, have qualified for the finals in Qatar in November-December while the third-place teams will vie for a spot in an inter-continental play-off.
This is the first time Vietnam have made it this far in World Cup qualification.
