Dinh Anh Hoang and Tran Mai Ngoc defeated Clarence Chew and Jian Zheng of Singapore 3-1 in the mixed doubles final of table tennis at the 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia on Sunday to win Vietnam’s first gold medal in the category in 26 years.
The match was closely contested, with both teams competing fiercely for every point.
In the first and second games, the Vietnamese pair emerged victorious with a score of 13-11 and 11-8.
However, the experienced pair Chew-Zheng did not surrender easily, especially Chew, who has won four gold medals at the SEA Games.
He consistently scored points, leading the Singaporean team to a win of 11-8 in the third game.

The Vietnamese duo was determined to make the milestone by winning 14-12 in the fourth game and put an end to Vietnam’s 26-year gold medal drought in the event.
The 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia is coming to a conclusion on Wednesday.
Vietnam, who sent a delegation of 1,003 members to the tournament, surpassed their target of earning at least 90 gold medals, with 107 gold, 92 silver, and 95 bronze medals as of 11:00 am on Monday, topping the ranking table.

Thailand followed with 91 gold, 68 silver, and 87 bronze medals.
Indonesia is in third with 68 gold, 61 silver, and 81 bronze medals.
Host Cambodia ranks fourth with 65 gold, 61 silver, and 104 bronze medals.
