Vietnam will face Hong Kong in an international friendly next month in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualification champaigns, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on its website on Friday.
The scheduled date is June 15, while the venue for the match will be updated later, the VFF said in its announcement.
This marks the Vietnamese national football team’s first international match since the appointment of new head coach Philippe Troussier in February.
The French manager led the Vietnamese U22 team to defend the men’s football gold medal at the 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games that just closed in Cambodia earlier this week, but he failed.
His U22 team finished the SEA Games only with a bronze medal.
In anticipation of the June 15 match, the Vietnamese national football team players are scheduled to regroup on June 7.
The VFF has carried out a plan to issue tickets for the friendly.
The football governing body added that Vietnam will play two more international friendlies in September and October this year before two matches at the 2026 World Cup and 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, taking place on November 13 and 21, respectively.
Vietnam’s opponents for these matches will be determined following a draw in July.
