Vietnamese track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Huong put on a great show as she secured a bronze medal in the triple jump at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships in Thailand on Wednesday evening.
Huong posted a personal best of 13.68 meters, resulting in the first medal for the Vietnamese delegation to the tournament.
Japan’s Mariko Morimoto took home the gold medal in the event with an impressive leap of 14.06 meters, while China’s Zeng Rui claimed the silver medal with a jump of 14.01 meters.
Born in 2001, Huong clinched a bronze medal at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia in May with a triple jump of 13.46 meters.
During the ninth National Sports Festival held in December 2022, Huong earned a silver medal with a jump of 12.94 meters.
The 2023 Asian Athletics Championships is underway in Bangkok, Thailand from July 12 to 16, marking the 25th edition of this prestigious event.
The competition also serves as a qualification stage for athletes hoping to participate at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary from August 19 to 27.
