FIFA has banned Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa FC from registering new players owing to their failure to pay foreign player Mamadou Guirassy.
The world’s football governing body already informed the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) of its ban on Khanh Hoa FC.
The detailed case file is expected to be available on the FIFA system later on Monday.
Mamadou Guirassy, a striker of French and Guinean descent, joined Khanh Hoa FC in October 2023 but left in January this year.
Guirassy, born in 1995, made 11 appearances in Vietnam's top-tier V.League 1 for the 2023-24 season, recording two assists, and played one match in the National Cup for Khanh Hoa FC before his contract was unilaterally terminated by the Vietnamese club.
He filed a complaint with FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, alleging that Khanh Hoa FC terminated his contract without paying him the US$26,000 owed.
As a consequence, FIFA has imposed a ban on Khanh Hoa FC from registering new players.
If the club fail to settle the outstanding payment, they could face a transfer prohibition for up to three transfer periods due to this breach of contract.
Khanh Hoa FC's coach, Tran Trong Binh, confirmed that the team received the document a few days ago and mentioned that their legal department is currently working on a solution.
He added that they are waiting for further instructions from the club’s leadership.
According to research by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, the club are facing serious financial difficulties and unpaid debts, which have resulted in sanctions from FIFA.
Despite these setbacks, Khanh Hoa FC are still set to compete in the 2024-25 V.League 1 season.
Efforts by Tuoi Tre to reach Khanh Hoa FC’s leadership for a more detailed response have so far been unsuccessful.
