Visitors can enjoy free admission to the Hai Van Gate relic site, located atop Hai Van Pass, which connects Da Nang City and Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam, from August 1.
Hoang Viet Trung, director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said on Monday that Hai Van Gate, dubbed 'World’s Most Marvelous Wonder,' would reopen to tourists on August 1 after an over-two-year makeover.
The center is focusing on taking care of the landscape of the relic site to welcome back the first visitors in early August.
Hai Van Gate is the only national relic site managed by two localities: Thua Thien-Hue Province and Da Nang City.
The site was constructed in 1826 during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945).
In late 2021, the administrations of the two localities reached a consensus on spending VND42 billion (US$1.6 million) rehabilitating the relic site due to its serious deterioration, leading to Hai Van Gate’s closure to visitors.
Trung said that Hai Van Gate would offer free admission to tourists in the initial stage until the Thua Thien-Hue People’s Council makes a decision on entry fees.
Situated nearly 500 meters above sea level, Hai Van Gate boasts various profound historical, architectural, and artistic values.
Apart from Hai Van Gate, the An Mausoleum relic site, the burial place of Emperor Duc Duc of the Nguyen Dynasty, located on Duy Tan Street in Hue City, Thua Thien-Hue Province, will also reopen its doors to tourists for free on August 1 after its restoration.
