Nestled in Thi Nai Lagoon in Binh Dinh Province, south-central Vietnam, Chim (Bird) Islet is a stunning natural picture with breathtaking landscapes and thousands of birds and storks.

The Con Chim Ecological Area in Phuoc Son Commune, Tuy Phuoc District, Binh Dinh Province, which is some 15 kilometers north of the provincial capital of Quy Nhon, has an area of 480 hectares.

The islet is nearly separated from the outside world. It is known as a 'green oasis' in Binh Dinh.

Mangrove forests there attract thousands of birds and storks.

To reach the islet, tourists arrive in Phuoc Son Commune and travel by boat for about 15 minutes through Thi Nai Lagoon.

They will be overwhelmed by the vast wild and green mangrove forests.

In the early morning and at sunset, thousands of birds and storks fly after each other and sing together, making a corner of the lagoon boisterous.

Local residents jointly protect mangrove forests and prevent the hunt for birds, so various kinds of birds have increasingly nestled in the islet, said Nguyen Van Hung, a resident in Con Chim Hamlet, Vinh Quang 2 Village, Phuoc Son Commune.

Nguyen Thanh Ha, a tourist from Hanoi who has visited the islet for the first time, said, “The atmosphere here is airy and cool. I love it.

“Coming to this place, my fatigue almost disappears. The feeling of watching hundreds of thousands of birds flying freely in the sky was really wonderful.”

In addition to sitting on boats to admire the scenery, tourists can do SUP (stand-up paddle boarding) to thread their way through Chim Islet to explore its beauty.

This is an interesting experience as tourists can touch mangrove forests and admire flocks of birds searching for food there.

Huynh Van Danh, a traveler from Ho Chi Minh City, said, “It was quite tiring when I began doing SUP. However, when going deep into forests and seeing birds placidly seeking food, I found my trip meaningful.

“Everyone should join hands to protect this place.

“It is comfortable to visit [the islet]. I almost don’t want to leave as [this place] is so beautiful, so wonderful.”
