Vietnamese national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has launched a nonstop air route between Vietnam and the Philippines, making it the first Vietnamese airline to establish a direct connection to the island nation.
The airline operated the inaugural flight departing from Ho Chi Minh City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila on Monday, Vietnam Airlines said in its press release issued on the same day.
Vietnam Airlines was set to operate a total of seven flights per week between Vietnam and the Philippines, including four weekly flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Manila and three flights per week between Hanoi and Manila.
The Philippines is a high potential market for Vietnam Airlines. The airline will serve tourists, business travelers, as well as the community of nearly 30,000 Vietnamese people living in the Philippines and about 7,000 Filipinos residing in Vietnam.
Vietnam has recently become an increasingly fascinating destination for Filipino tourists due to its relatively short travel distance, unique culture, affordable travel costs, and vibrant culinary scene adds an extra layer of allure to Vietnam's tourism appeal.
Before the launch, passengers selected air services by international airlines such as Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Air Asia, Philippines AirAsia, and Royal Brunei Airlines to fly from Vietnam to the Philippines.
