Vietnam took the lead at the first Abu Reikhan Beruniy International Chemistry Olympiad as all of its eight students won medals, including four golds and four silvers, the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training informed.
The four gold medals went to Do Phu Quoc from Le Thanh Tong High School for Gifted Students in central Quang Nam Province, Nguyen Nguyen Hai and Le Quang Truong from Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students in north-central Nghe An Province, and Nguyen Huu Tien Hung from Bac Ninh High School for Gifted Students in the namesake northern province.
The four silver medals were secured by Truong Bao Ngoc from Bac Ninh High School for Gifted Students, Hoang Tien Cuong from Le Hong Phong High School for Gifted Students in northern Nam Dinh Province, Tran Duc Anh from High School for Gifted Students of the University of Science under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi, and Giap Vu Son Ha from Bac Giang High School for Gifted Students in the namesake northern province.
This year, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of Uzbekistan held the Abu Reikhan Beruniy International Chemistry Olympiad, which was designed for students under 18 years old, in the Khorezm region from June 11 to 17 over two rounds.
In the first round, students took a theoretical exam including seven tests within five hours.
In the second round, they engaged in a practical exam lasting three hours.
The competition attracted students from 15 countries and territories.
The Ministry of Preschool and School Education of Uzbekistan will hold the competition every two years starting from 2023.
