An international fingerstyle guitar festival is to go ahead in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday night after also taking place in Hanoi.
The International Fingerstyle Guitar Festival 2016 will be held at 8:00 pm at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music at 112 Nguyen Du Street, District 1.
The event, the second of its kind in Vietnam, will feature six young talents from five countries and territories, including the U.S., South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
This year, young guitarist Do Duong Tung who goes by the stage name 'Tung AG’ represents Vietnam at the fest.
The 27-year-old is the founder and chairman of the Vietnam Fingerstyle Guitar Organization.
In 2013, Tung organized Vietnam’s first-ever Percussive Fingerstyle Guitar Contest and other performance programs to introduce fingerstyle techniques, in which the artist plucks the strings with fingertips, nails, and finger picks instead of hitting individual notes with a plectrum.
The International Fingerstyle Guitar Festival has been held annually in Asia since 2010, attracting a number of international artists.
This year’s event kicked off on June 29 in Japan, then traveled to South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and Malaysia.
It includes sixteen performances and is set to close on July 23 in Singapore.
Six artists taking part in tonight’s show are Andy McKee (U.S.), Huang Chia Wei (Taiwan), Masa Sumide (Japan), Tung AG (Vietnam), Erica Cho and Sandra Bae (South Korea).
In Vietnam, the International Fingerstyle Guitar Festival 2016 is jointly organized by the Wind Strings Entertainment, the Youth Theater and the Vietnam Fingerstyle Guitar Organization, in the hope of bringing audience members a colorful, impressive spectacle.
It was held in Hanoi on July 19 at the Youth Theater.
