Chairman of Vietnam's National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue, Vice-Chairwoman of the Lao NA Sounthone Xayachak, and senior officials from both countries visited an aircraft maintenance hangar jointly operated by Vietjet and Lao Airlines in Vientiane on Monday.

The visit was part of Hue's trip to Laos to attend the first Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Parliamentary Summit and visit the neighboring country through Thursday.

The aircraft maintenance hangar, located at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, was approved by both Vietnamese and Lao aviation authorities.

Inside, Vietjet aircraft proudly display the red and yellow of the Vietnamese flag as they receive periodic maintenance from both Vietjet and Lao Airlines employees.

Hue also witnessed the signing of a comprehensive partnership agreement between the two carriers on Monday.

Under the agreement, both sides will collaborate to develop and operate the aircraft maintenance facility at Wattay Airport.

Both airlines believe this comprehensive partnership will foster cooperation in multiple areas beyond just maintenance and repair, including aviation workforce training, tourism promotion, and investment, among others.

Since signing an initial aircraft maintenance agreement in July, Vietjet has already brought nearly 20 of its 100 aircraft to this hangar for maintenance, including narrow-body A320s and A321s as well as the wider-body A330s.

The partnership with Lao Airlines has helped Vietjet reduce operating costs by allowing them to perform maintenance closer to home, eliminating the need to send aircraft further away for service.
