Politics:

- The Vietnam-India Inter-Governmental Committee on Economic and Science-Technology Cooperation convened its 15 th meeting in New Delhi  India on July 11. The meeting was presided over by Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh who is paying an official visit to India from July 10-12 and his Indian counterpart Salman Khurshid. - Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Chamal Rajapaksa will pay an official visit to Vietnam from July 14-19. The National Assembly’s Commission for External Relations said on July 11 that Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa’s up-coming visit to Vietnam is at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

Society:

- Nguyen Giang Son, 31, from the southern province of Long An has launched a special service called “two-wheel taxi” in which “xe om” is equipped with speedometer like taxi.

- According to the latest statistics by the Vietnam Family Planning Association, every year, Vietnam has 300,000 cases of abortion at teenage ages in average, placing firts in Asia and fifth worldwide.

Business:

- Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group has launched 46 projects with the total investment of VND6,144billion. The total revenue is estimated to reach VND20,227billion, 11% increasing compared with the same period last year.

- The 15th International Leather and Footwear Exhibition is being held in HCMCM by the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association. The three-day event gathers 160 producers, suppliers and distributors from 16 countries. At the event, the association informed that Vietnamese leather footwear is accounting 10% of the total amount of leather footwear imported to America.

Lifestyle:

- Local well-known singer Dan Truong had a meeting with local media on July 11 to explain an incident in which the singer said he was extorted up to nearly USD60,000 from a woman who used to be his fan.

- Two local movie websites, http://phim47.com and http://v1vn.com, have been fined for violation many film’s copyright by showcasing them without permission.

- Inspectorate of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has directed functional agencies to withdraw pirates DVDs of the movie “Bui Doi Cho Lon” (The gangsters in the melting pot of Lon Market). Although it has been banned from screening, a draft version of the film was leaked and has spread at the speed light on the Internet since July 5.
