This viral photo shows two Porsche Macan cars with the same number plate at the lobby of Times City in Hanoi on April 19, 2021.

Two luxury cars with the same number plate crossed paths in Times City, an urban complex, in Hanoi on Monday morning, and the image was posted on social networks later by one of the owners of the cars.

They were found to have nearly the same color and the same license plate, 30A-715.10, when they stopped at the lobby of the urban complex on Hai Ba Trung Street.

The image of the two cars was photographed by the female owner of one of the cars and she then posted it on a large automobile forum online.

She saw a Porsche Macan car whose appearance is nearly the same as her vehicle's stop at the lobby of the complex when she was preparing to drive her children to school, the woman recounted.

Most notably, the license plate of the car was the same as her car's, she said.

The woman then requested the complex’s security guards to lock the wheels of the other car pending authorities' handling the case.

The woman’s Porsche Macan is the base model in brown, while the other is dark grey and its rims come from the Macan Turbo version.

In Vietnam, the Porsche Macan belongs to the same segment as other luxury sport utility vehicles such as the Range Rover Evoque, Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes GLK, among others.

It is known that this odd case is under police investigation and no results have been released so far.

A similar incident happened in Hanoi on February 28, when two Mercedes-Benz E300 cars in the same color and with the same number plate, 30E-488.16, were seen side by side in traffic.

Both cars were detained by police on March 2 for investigation, and they later concluded one of the two cars’ owners used a fake number plate.

Any motor vehicles must have registration papers and number plates granted by state agencies, as provided for in Clause 3 of Article 53 of the Road Traffic Law.

Those who install vehicle license plates that have been legally granted to another vehicle will be deemed to commit the offense of using fake number plates.

Under Clause 5, Article 16 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP on administrative sanctions for road and rail traffic offenses, a fine ranging from VND4 million (US$174) to VND6 million ($260) shall be imposed on those who operate automobiles bearing license plates not identical to those indicated on their vehicle registration certificates, or bearing license plates not being issued by a designated authority.

At the same time, offenders will also have their driver’s licenses held by police for 1-3 months, and license plates not issued by relevant bodies will be confiscated.
