Two Vietnamese photographers, Chim Oanh and Dang Hoai Anh, have claimed the first and third prizes at the 2023 Chromatic Photography Awards, an international competition of color photography open to both professionals and amateurs worldwide.

At the awards ceremony held recently, Chim Oanh was honored with the first prize for the work ‘Tren song Nhu Y’ (‘On The Nhu Y River’), which features fishers pulling nets to catch fish on the Nhu Y River in Hue City, central Vietnam.

Her colleague Dang Hoai Anh earned the third prize for his photo ‘Chang vang’ (‘Twilight’), with the description ‘twilight in the cold fog, workers picking tea early in the morning.’

Both the winning photos were in the category of ‘People’ in the professional section of the competition.

All photos in the annual contest were classified into 20 different categories, which were then divided into the professional and amateur sections, including abstract, architecture, cityscapes, conceptual, culture, environmental, fashion and beauty, fine art, landscapes, nature, nudes, people, photojournalism, photomanipulation, and others, according to the contest organizer, Chromatic Awards.

The winners of the first, second, and third prizes for each category in both the professional and amateur sections were given the winner badges and certificates, while their winning works will be exhibited in the Gallery of Winners and the Official Book of Chromatic Awards.

In addition, there were two grand prizes each of which was given to the work ‘Mémoire Habillée’ by French photographer duo Pierre Larose and Florent Darthout in the professional section, and to the photo ‘Playground’ by artist Sebastian Piórek from Poland in the amateur section.

With such prizes, the two French photographers co-earned the title ‘Chromatic Photographer of The Year 2023,’ while the Polish artist bagged the title ‘Chromatic Discovery of The Year 2023.’

Besides, cash awards of US$2,000 and $1,000 were given to the two title winners, respectively.

The yearly event is aimed at providing artists the opportunity to share their passion and stories through their photographs, promoting the world's top photographers, and discovering new, emerging talents, the organizer said.
