Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have installed radar speed signs at ten locations on a number of streets in order to handle vehicles that violate the speed limit regulations.

The first two radar speed signs have been put into operation at the two ends of the Thu Thiem Tunnel under the Saigon River connecting District 1 and Thu Duc City.

The signs display vehicles speed and their license plate numbers, aiming at slowing cars down by informing drivers when they are driving at speeds above the posted limits.

The data will then be automatically transferred to the Ho Chi Minh City Road and Railway Traffic Police Unit to handle violations.

The system has not been applicable to motorbikes.

Eight other interactive signs of the same type are ready for installation on Nguyen Van Linh Avenue, the Phu My Bridge, National Highway 22, National Highway 1, Hanoi Highway, and the Cat Lai Bridge.

“In the coming time, the Public Transport Management Center [under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport] will continue to survey and propose installing more radar speed signs at vehicle load checkpoints,” said Doan Van Tan, director of the center.
