Many people in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam visited clinics and hospitals to test for COVID-19 as required by their employers after a week-long Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

The visitors queued at Song Khoe and Thien Nhan Clinics, as well as Minh Thien Hospital in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam on Sunday, as observed by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters.

The people, mostly domestic migrant workers, wanted to take rapid COVID-19 tests to meet the requirements of their workplaces, which either are factories and industrial parks or are located in other localities.

The province's daily record of hundreds of coronavirus cases during the Tet holiday from January 29 to Sunday was also the additional cause that drove the people to take tests for their health safety.

Quang Nam reported more than 11,440 COVID-19 cases from January 1 to Saturday, including 8,958 community-based infections, according to the provincial committee for COVID-19 prevention and control.

Above 1.17 million of the province’s 1.84 million people have received at least one vaccine dose while upwards of 1.13 million have been jabbed twice, according to the national COVID-19 vaccination portal.

Millions of people around Vietnam moved from urban cities where they work back to their hometowns for family reunions as a tradition during Tet.

Tourist attractions were filled with visitors throughout the nine-day Lunar New Year break after Vietnamese citizens were placed under movement restrictions to stall COVID-19 transmission for months last year.
