Vietnam adds 8,270 cases to coronavirus infection tally

The Ministry of Health documented 8,270 additional COVID-19 infections in Vietnam on Monday, together with 6,685 recoveries and eight virus-linked fatalities.

The newest cases, all local transmissions, were logged in 60 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily report.

Hanoi reported 941 of the latest domestic cases, Bac Giang Province 905, Quang Ninh Province 411, Nghe An Province 400, Tuyen Quang Province 282, Gia Lai Province 261, Lam Dong Province 124, Quang Binh Province 121, Bac Ninh Province 96, Da Nang 68, Binh Duong Province 48, Quang Nam Province 42, Ho Chi Minh City 38, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 32, Khanh Hoa Province 10, and Can Tho City three.

The Ministry of Health recorded 8,813 infections on Sunday.

Vietnam has confirmed 10,564,023 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Almost 9.1 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi leads the tally with 1,541,885 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 608,048, Nghe An Province 426,127, Binh Duong Province with 383,239, Hai Duong Province 360,148, Bac Ninh Province 338,404, Ca Mau Province 150,004, Tay Ninh Province with 137,045, Hai Phong City 119,409, Binh Phuoc Province 117,495, Dong Nai Province with 106,626, Da Nang with 101,433, and Can Tho City with 49,418.

Vietnam detected only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry registered 6,685 recovered patients on Monday, lifting the national count to 9,092,760.

The toll has gone up to 43,021, with eight pathogen-related mortalities added today. 

Vietnam has found 10,571,772 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have given over 212.6 million vaccine doses, including 209,325 shots on Sunday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Above 194.5 million doses have been administered to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,434,025 first shots, 68,597,436 second doses, 15,209,921 additional primary jabs, and 37,843,062 boosters.    

A combined 17.341.923 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,886,195 first doses and 8,455,728 second jabs.

More than 667,978 doses have been given to children aged 5-11.
