Vietnam announces 3,123 additional coronavirus cases

The Ministry of Health reported 3,123 new COVID-19 infections in Vietnam on Monday, along with 1,090 recoveries and two virus-related fatalities.

The newest cases, all but one of which were local transmissions, were detected in 53 provinces and cities, the health ministry said in a daily report, adding that 2,615 caught the pathogen in the community.

Hanoi documented 761 of the latest domestic cases, Quang Ninh Province 151, Bac Ninh Province 150, Nghe An Province 116, Quang Binh Province 73, Da Nang 61, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 50, Lam Dong Province 45, Ha Giang Province 28, Ho Chi Minh City 26, Quang Nam Province 17, Binh Duong Province 15, Hai Phong City 11, Khanh Hoa Province seven, and Can Tho City one.

The Ministry of Health logged 3,717 infections on Sunday.

Vietnam has found 10,648,899 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Over 9.26 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Hanoi tops the list with 1,587,892 patients, followed by Ho Chi Minh City with 608,476, Nghe An Province 427,984, Binh Duong Province with 383,418, Hai Duong Province 361,403, Bac Ninh Province 339,260, Ca Mau Province 150,142, Tay Ninh Province with 137,302, Hai Phong City 119,657, Binh Phuoc Province 117,813, Dong Nai Province with 106,652, Da Nang with 101,971, and Can Tho City with 49,440.

Vietnam confirmed only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 1,090 recovered patients on Monday, bringing the national count to 9,265,456.

The toll has increased to 43,044, with two pathogen-associated deaths added today. 

Vietnam has recorded 10,656,649 cases in total since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have given almost 215 million vaccine doses, including 51,917 shots on Sunday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Upwards of 196 million doses have been administered to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 71,459,600 first shots, 68,645,058 second doses, 15,308,781 additional primary jabs, and 39,161,723 boosters.    

A combined 17,376,932 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,908,009 first doses and 8,468,923 second jabs.

A total of 1,533,088 doses have been given to children aged 5-11.
