The People’s Committee in Binh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam launched on Sunday a tree planting program in response to the prime minister’s project on planting one billion trees in the 2021-25 period. The program is accompanied by NovaGroup.

Binh Thuan is one of the provinces that are heavily affected by extreme weather events such as severe heatwaves, water scarcity, and desertification.

The locality has about 150,000 hectares of sandy soil and arid rocky mountains, including 25,757 hectares of degraded land.

Districts in the north of Binh Thuan, namely Tuy Phong and Bac Binh, have recorded an alarming level of desertification and land degradation which have affected the lives and agricultural cultivation of local residents.

In order to overcome these challenges, Binh Thuan has determined that afforestation is the most sustainable way to protect the environment, improve water absorption and storage, boost wind resistance, and slow down the process of desertification, Nguyen Van Phong, vice-chairman of the provincial People's Committee, said at the launching ceremony.

This is a significant task that needs to be performed regularly and constantly for a long time, Phong stressed, adding that the protection of the ecological environment is very important in the process of accelerating industrialization, modernization, and urbanization.

To call on agencies, units, civil servants, public employees, and residents to participate in tree planting, Binh Thuan will turn the activity into an emulation movement at all levels and in all residential quarters, urban areas, schools, industrial parks, and offices.

With this event, Binh Thuan Province calls for resources from all economic sectors, units, and organizations to soon achieve the goal of protecting the ecological environment, improving the landscape and responding to climate change.

This will contribute to socio-economic development and improve the quality of life for the people.

At the ceremony, Hoang Thu Chau – CEO of NovaGroup – said that the group is willing to accompany the tree planting program not only in Binh Thuan, but also in other localities in Vietnam.

During the campaign in Binh Thuan Province, NovaGroup and its member corporations will plant trees on the key roads of Phan Thiet City, the provincial capital, and many other districts and communes in the province, with the budget totaling VND10 billion ($431,200).

The selected trees, which suit the soil and climate in Binh Thuan, will be taken from the high-tech plant nursery of Nova Evergreen – a member of the NovaGroup ecosystem – and will be taken care of with modern and eco-friendly methods.

Through this program, Chau hoped that the local business community will join hands to plant more trees and spread the message of environmental protection, contributing to the promotion of the local tourism.

“In order to develop tourism, the local environment must be green, clean, and beautiful,” Chau said, hoping that the message will spread to all residents in Binh Thuan so that each of them will pay more attention to protecting the environment in their neighborhood.

Planting trees in Binh Thuan is one of the activities of the ‘Green Up Vietnam - Millions of Trees for a Brighter Life’ initiative of NovaGroup.

NovaGroup wishes to work with the provinces and cities where it is developing its projects to jointly deploy this initiative.

The company always focuses on ensuring the harmonious development between three key areas, namely economic development, social development, and environmental protection.

On the same morning, NovaGroup and local authorities organized a beach cleaning program themed ‘Action for a Brighter Life’ in response to the World Environment Day.

Vice-chairman of the Binh Thuan People's Committee Nguyen Van Phong highly appreciated the initiative of businesses, especially NovaGroup, in the plan to grow more trees in the province.

He hoped that many businesses, organizations, and individuals will take part in the plan by providing financial resources for the tree planting efforts in the locality, which will help boost the quality and area of local forests, protect the ecological environment, improve the landscape, and respond to climate change.
