The suspect who snatched the phone and wallet of a woman along a street in Ho Chi Minh City in early September was arrested while hiding in north-central Vietnam.
Officers under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security confirmed on Sunday they had apprehended Nguyen Quoc Huy, 23, from Tan Binh District, on theft charges.
Huy is one of the two suspects who snatched the phone and wallet of T.V. on September 2.
V. was walking along Huynh Van Banh Street in Phu Nhuan District with her son at around 3:45 pm that day when two men on a motorbike approached her.
The man sitting on the back of the vehicle took the phone and wallet from V.’s hands, before the two sped away.
Police in Ho Chi Minh City later launched an investigation into the case, collected the victim’s statement, and reviewed CCTV footage.

The suspect was then taken back to Ho Chi Minh City to facilitate the investigation.
At the police station, Huy admitted that he had worked with his accomplice to snatch phones, handbags, and wallets of local residents and tourists in four separate incidents between August 24 and September 2.
After the theft on September 2 was reported by local media, Huy decided to run away to Thua Thien-Hue.
Police are continuing the hunt for Huy’s accomplice.
