Settsu patrol vessel of the Japan Coast Guard on Monday arrived in Tien Sa Port in Da Nang, central Vietnam, beginning its six-day visit to the city.
The visit is to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.
The vessel has 52 crew members on board, captained by Niwa Satoshi.
During the time in Da Nang, they will participate in a research and rescue drill with the Vietnam Coast Guard this Saturday.
According to Niwa Satoshi, Settsu’s selection of Vietnam as its first destination for a friendly visit after the COVID-19 pandemic proves that Japan attaches great importance to the Vietnam Coast Guard and other relevant agencies.

During their visit to Da Nang, crew members of Settsu patrol vessel will meet with municipal leaders, visit the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center, and participate in sport activities.
“Vietnam-Japan relations have been established for years. The two countries’ marine security and safety forces have regularly held exchange activities and visits," Satoshi said.
“We have also trained and exchanged experience in search and rescue and skills to fight against crimes at sea.
"Through these activities, we have jointly contributed to maintaining peace in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean."
Settsu patrol vessel is conducting a patrol to prevent international pirates in the Southeast Asian waters for a month.
The visit to Da Nang is expected to deepen the partnership between Vietnam and Japan, contributing to maintaining and enhancing the free and open maritime order in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean.
