A man died and four others were hospitalized on Wednesday after drinking alcohol at a funeral in Ca Mau Province, which is Vietnam’s southern tip.

Nguyen Viet Trieu, chairman of Khanh Binh Tay Bac Commune in Tran Van Thoi District, on Thursday afternoon confirmed the alcohol poisoning case.

The Ca Mau General Hospital on Wednesday admitted three patients suspected of alcohol poisoning.

The three men, aged between 50 and 70, live in Khanh Binh Tay Bac Commune.

After being rushed to the hospital, the three were in a critical condition, thereby receiving continuous blood purification treatment.

Their health recovered on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, the two others received treatment at the Tran Van Thoi General Hospital, but the 58-year-old man was pronounced dead.

The chairman of Khanh Binh Tay Bac said that they had attended a funeral at their acquaintance’s house in the commune and drunk liquor there.

After the bash, all of them developed some symptoms of headache and fatigue, so they were hospitalized for emergencies.

Police in the province are investigating the death and hospitalizations linked to the liquor.
