Doctors at a hospital in Hanoi saved a 40-year-old man who had his neck pierced with a 90-centimeter-long crowbar.
The patient was identified as H.V.P., a resident of Nam Dinh Province in the northern region. The accident happened when he fell onto a crowbar at his work site.
A representative of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in Hanoi confirmed this labor accident on Monday, saying that the hospital had admitted a patient who had his neck pierced with a crowbar, but he was conscious.
After the man was rushed to the hospital, doctors quickly stopped the bleeding of the wound, and conducted ultrasound scans to check his arteries and jawbone.
Dr. Ngo Hai Son at the department of plastic and maxillofacial surgery of the hospital said that some doctors worked together to perform an operation to remove the crowbar and handle the wounds to stabilize the patient.
“The patient is very lucky as the bar did not cut the arteries or veins in his neck,” Dr. Son said.
After the surgery, the patient’s health was stable, and he was able to eat and drink normally.
Dr. Nguyen Hong Ha, head of the hospital’s department of plastic and maxillofacial surgery, said that the hospital admits many critical multi-trauma cases every day.
“Some patients suffering a brain trauma, facial injuries, and chest and stomach wounds have been saved," said Dr. Ha.
“Workers should be careful and follow labor safety requirements while working to avoid unexpected labor accidents."
