The northern and north-central regions of Vietnam are forecast to continue experiencing medium to heavy rains until Thursday, with precipitation reaching up to 200 millimeters, according to the national weather center.

Some 40-70 millimeters of rain hit many northern localities such as Lai Chau, Quang Ninh, and Lao Cai Provinces on Tuesday morning.

The northern region will continue facing heavy rains with rainfall ranging from 50 to 200 millimeters from now until Thursday.

Downpours with a rain volume of up to 150 millimeters will sweep through the north-central region on Wednesday and Thursday.

Rain could be accompanied by thunderstorms, hail, and powerful winds.

The rain is forecast to decrease in the northern region on Thursday, but it will keep lashing many north-central provinces and cities throughout the day.

The national weather center has issued warnings against flash floods and landslides in mountainous and low-lying areas, along with heavy flooding in urban areas.

Strong winds and high tides are battering the coastal areas from Binh Dinh Province in south-central Vietnam to Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province in the southern region on Tuesday.
