Hanoi is planning to set a Southeast Asian record by hosting a music and drone light show featuring 2,024 drones on the Lunar New Year's Eve to welcome the Year of the Dragon, said a local official at a press briefing in Hanoi on Friday.

The drone light show is scheduled to take place at My Dinh National Stadium in Nam Tu Liem District or at the iconic West Lake in Tay Ho District, Truong Viet Dung, chief of the municipal administration’s office, told a press briefing reviewing the socio-economic performance of Hanoi during the first month of 2024.

The sky over the Vietnamese capital will also be illuminated with dazzling fireworks to mark the arrival of the Year of the Dragon.

Revelers can watch 15-minute fireworks shows at 32 locations citywide, with nine spots featuring high-altitude displays.

The city will spend an estimated VND29 billion (US$1.1 million) hosting the drone light show and fireworks displays, with the funding contributed by private investors and businesses.
