A 108-story financial skyscraper, part of a US$4.2-billion smart city project in Dong Anh District, Hanoi, may impact civil flight operations at Noi Bai International Airport, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
The CAAV’s opinion was included in a statement the Hanoi administration sent to the Ministry of Transport.
According to the municipal authorities, North Hanoi Smart City Development Investment JSC, the investor of the project, is completing procedures for the development of the project.
The smart city project was approved with an aim to develop a new smart urban area with a modern financial, banking, trade and service center.
The 108-story financial tower was planned to be developed on a 133,279-square-meter land lot and have a height of 639 meters. It was expected to become the tallest building in Vietnam.
Buildings with a height of below 354 meters do not affect flight operations at Noi Bai International Airport, according to CAAV.
The authority asked the Hanoi administration to consider the importance of the financial tower project.
If it persists in building the tower, the investor and consulting units of the project must coordinate with the Department of Operations under the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, CAAV and Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation to review the accuracy of data of the project, study and assess the impact of the project, consider adjusting the designed height of the tower or flight operations at Noi Bai International Airport.
According to the Hanoi People’s Committee, the 108-story financial tower is in line with the city's approved urban planning.
The city approved and supported the design of the tower as a world-class project.
