The administration in Hanoi has allowed the building of a driving range and the resumption of tourist transport services using boats, speedboats, and water bicycles on the surface of West Lake.

The municipal government has issued regulations on the lake management and exploitation.

In particular, the Vietamese capital city allows many cultural, sports, and tourism activities in West Lake, including art performances, traditional festivals, boat races, water musical performances, hot-air balloon festivals, and paragliding.

Other services permitted in the lake include swimming, diving, and sailing.

The city also allows the use of bicycles, pedicabs, and electric vehicles to do sightseeing on the roads surrounding West Lake.

The municipal administration required the protection of the environment in the lake.

The People’s Committee of Tay Ho District, where the lake is located, will oversee the lake's management and collaborate with municipal departments and agencies for its utilization.

Chairman of the administration in Tay Ho District Nguyen Dinh Khuyen told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Thursday that these were the city’s directions and would not be realized immediately.

The district will draw up a detailed plan to execute these directions and work out environmental protection solutions.

These services will not be launched in West Lake at least in the next two years, Khuyen added.

In 2015, Hanoi authorities directed the Tay Ho District administration to request that organizations with old and unused boats relocate from the West Lake area.

By 2017, the city had completely prohibited all business, service, sports, tourism, entertainment, aquaculture, and fishing activities from the lake.

Ship owners were then required to dismantle or relocate their vehicles from West Lake.
