A fresh cold front originating from the north is moving southward, expected to impact northern Vietnam by Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Cold air is expected to arrive in the northern mountains in the afternoon and later spread to the northeast, northwest, and north-central regions in the evening and at night.

Starting Thursday night, colder conditions are anticipated in the northern and north-central regions.

According to the meteorological agency, during this cold spell, temperatures in the north typically range from 15 to 18 degrees Celsius, while mountainous areas experience mercury of 12-15 degrees, and high mountainous areas may dip below 10 degrees.

In the central region, temperatures range from 16 to 19 degrees Celsius.

Owing to the impact of the cold air, the northeast wind is expected to intensify in the Gulf of Tonkin from Thursday evening, leading to rough seas with waves reaching heights of 1.5-2.5 meters.

By Thursday night, the northeast wind will have strengthened further, resulting in rough seas with waves reaching heights of 2-3.5 meters in the north of the East Vietnam Sea.

Daytime temperatures remain high

Before that, an expansive hot low-pressure system in the west led to hot weather conditions from Nghe An to Thua Thien-Hue Provinces, located in the north-central and central regions, on Tuesday.

At 1:00 pm on Tuesday, temperatures ranged between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, with some areas surpassing 37 degrees, such as Tay Hieu Commune in Nghe An Province’s Thai Hoa Town and Tuyen Hoa District in Quang Binh Province registering 37.1 degrees Celsius, as well as Huong Khe District in Ha Tinh Province.

Humidity in these localities varied between 45 and 50 percent.

In northern areas like Son La, Dien Bien, and Lai Chau Provinces, it was mostly sunny with temperatures between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius. Some places even recorded temperatures above 35 degrees.

Following several days of overcast skies and cold weather, Hanoi witnessed thick fog on Tuesday morning, which gradually dissipated in the afternoon, giving way to sunny weather.

Temperatures fluctuated between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius, prompting many people venturing outdoors to wear only shirts or lightweight attire.

The forecast for Wednesday indicates hot weather conditions from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai Provinces, with mercury commonly reaching 35-37 degrees Celsius and humidity levels between 45 and 50 percent.

Some areas in the northwest region may also experience hot weather, while it is expected to remain sunny in Hanoi.

The weather agency warns of possible explosions and fires in residential areas due to higher electricity use and an increased risk of forest fires, given the hot and dry conditions.

Also, prolonged exposure to high temperatures elevates the risk of dehydration, exhaustion, and heatstroke for individuals.
