The Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper hotline recently received many complaints from readers about uneven manhole covers on multiple streets of Ho Chi Minh City being a nuisance to vehicle users.
There are reports of routes where manhole covers are significantly raised or lowered by more than four to five centimeters compared to the road surface.
This issue is particularly noticeable on streets like Vo Van Ngan, Kha Van Can, and Do Xuan Hop in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City.
Similarly, instances of this issue have been observed on streets such as Hoang Van Thu and Phan Dang Luu in Phu Nhuan District, Phan Van Tri Street in Go Vap District, Nguyen Van Dau Street in Binh Thanh District, and several others within Ho Chi Minh City.
Tran Minh Phuong, a 52-year-old resident of Thu Duc City who sells drinks on Vo Van Ngan Street, said that this road had many uneven manhole covers that traffic participants had to go out of their way to avoid.

“Although this road is regularly maintained, the protruding manhole covers remain, leaving rush-hour vehicles that are unable to avoid them in time at risk of crashing into others,” said Phuong.
In the event of rain and flooding, these uneven drain and manhole covers become even more hazardous, causing people to slip and fall from being unable to see where these covers are to dodge them.
Vu Van Diep, chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Management Center, shared that in principle, when constructing water supply and drainage works, manhole covers must be level with the road surface.
However, construction units might have overlooked this requirement during road repairs or upgrades, resulting in the uneven installation of manhole covers. In the event of encountering uneven manhole covers, people are encouraged to call 1022 to report the issue.
The Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Management Center will promptly address the situation to ensure safety and convenience for everyone.
