-- The cruiser Vendemiaire of the French Navy will arrive in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang on April 11 for a five-day port call, according to the French Embassy in Vietnam.

-- Authorities in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City are investigating the cause of a fire that engulfed many houses along the Tau Hu Canal in the district on Monday evening. The blaze caused no casualties but damaged 470 square meters of houses and a wood yard.

-- The American International School Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday evening sent an email to parents, announcing that they had contributed VND15.6 billion (US$630,167) to help the school maintain its operation in the 2023-24 academic year and students would return to school on Wednesday. The school had earlier called on parents to make contributions so that it could pay salaries, insurance premiums, and accommodation costs for foreign teachers.

-- Police in Binh Thuan Province, south-central Vietnam are testing 25 packages of suspected drugs that washed ashore onto a beach in La Gi Town on Monday.

-- Seven out of 17 trains on the first metro line in Ho Chi Minh City will be put into operation on July 1, according to Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railways No. 1 Co. Ltd., which will operate the metro line.

-- Hanoi reported the highest cost of living in Vietnam in 2023. The capital city was followed by Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh Province, and Hai Phong City, according to the General Statistics Office.

-- Sa Pa Town in Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam has been named among the 16 most beautiful small towns in the world by the British magazine Time Out.

-- “Google agreed to destroy billions of data records to settle a lawsuit claiming it secretly tracked the internet use of people who thought they were browsing privately,” according to Reuters.

-- “An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 hit Iwate and Aomori prefectures in northern Japan on Tuesday,” Reuters cited the Japan Meteorological Agency as saying.
