The People’s Court in Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday afternoon handed down prison terms on a 24-year-old woman and her lover for torturing her three-year-old son.

The woman was sentenced to one year in jail for torturing her son, while her lover received an 8.5-year term for tormenting the boy and illegally storing drugs.

The mother is Nguyen Thao Nguyen, a resident in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, and her lover is Le Van Bam, a 45-year-old resident in Hoc Mon District. 

Earlier, videos showing the two allegedly letting the boy use meth surfaced on social media.

However, investigators said that they could not seize meth as the case happened in 2022, so they had no ground to charge Bam with organizing drug use and forcing or enticing others to use drugs.

According to the indictment, Nguyen got married to T.N.T. and they have two children – T.N.A.N. and K..

In 2021, T. was forced to undergo detoxification.

Nguyen later lived with Bam as husband and wife and her two children in Hoc Mon.

On April 10 and 25, 2022, Bam threatened, cursed, tortured, and used duct tape to tie the arms and legs of K., who was then three years old.

He even threatened to cut K.’s genitals with a screw, a hammer, and scissors.

Nguyen used her smartphone to film Bam’s acts on the two days and sent them to her friend for fun.

On April 15, 2022, Bam prepared meth for him, Nguyen, and Nguyen’s friend.

After Nguyen’s friend left, Bam gave the remaining meth to K. for use, while Nguyen utilized her smartphone to record the situation.

After T. completed his detoxification period, he returned and detected the videos. He asked his friend to upload them to social media and then reported the case to police in Ba Diem Commune, Hoc Mon District.

At the police station, Bam said K. often cried and was naughty, so he tortured K. to scare the boy and amuse himself.

Meanwhile, Nguyen declared that she felt excited when seeing Bam tormenting her son, so she recorded the videos of Bam’s acts and sent them to her friend for fun.

Police confiscated 0.21 grams of meth at the residence of Bam and Nguyen.
