Nguyen Thi Ngoc Trinh, a 65-year-old resident in Thu Duc City, a district-level unit under Ho Chi Minh City, has recently completed a remarkable journey to earn her bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical medicine.
She successfully completed the university transfer program at Nguyen Tat Thanh University in the southern metropolis and received the degree at the end of last month after four years of hard study, including during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trinh was born to a family with many siblings. She is not married so she spent most of her life caring for her parents until they passed away. That was when she decided to pursue her dream of studying.
She completed a learning program at Sai Gon Gia Dinh College, also in Ho Chi Minh City, before entering Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
Trinh said she was happy to have completed the learning program and obtained the bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical medicine.
“I am lucky to study with friends in my class who wholeheartedly helped and encouraged me to overcome the difficulty of university," Trinh noted.
“After completing each subject one by one, I am glad that I was able to graduate as scheduled.”
Sharing her learning methods, Trinh said she took meticulous notes to help memorize her lessons.
“As I am not married, I was able to focus solely on learning," she said.
Trinh also served as an inspiration to many of the young people who studied alongside her.
Trinh shared that her time at university enhanced her knowledge and skills, allowing her to conduct research and practice essential soft skills, such as time management, problem-solving, and effective communication with customers and patients.
She considered learning to be a long journey and hoped young people would have a learning spirit to widen their knowledge.
Vo The Anh Tai, a lecturer at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, said Trinh was a dedicated learner.
Tai was impressed by Trinh’s attitude. She always respected lecturers and was willing to ask questions when she did not understand something.
She had a good learning spirit. She not only learned for herself but also set an example to others, Tai said.
Sharing her future plan, Trinh said she was working at a private pharmacy and expected to continue the career.
