Police in Da Nang City, central Vietnam have broken up an online football betting ring that included wagers on Euro 2024 matches and carried out transactions worth a combined VND1 trillion (US$39.3 million), arresting 12 suspects.

Police officers detected the suspects regularly organizing betting on football on websites such as www.vi… and www.s...

After identifying betting accounts, 10 teams of the police agency in Hai Chau District, Da Nang and the municipal cybersecurity and hi-tech crime prevention division detained the suspects and raided their residences on Thursday.

The suspects said foreign bookmakers had provided them with a betting limit of $3 million per month since August 2023 to bet on domestic and foreign football matches, including those in the ongoing group stage of Euro 2024.

They later distributed accounts to lower-level agents to entice more gamblers.

The racket conducted transactions totaling some $8 million per month, according to police records.

The suspects carried out around 83,000 transactions.

Da Nang police officers also joined forces with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security to arrest two individuals for allegedly providing a betting network for this group.
