Many bus stops in Ho Chi Minh City are being used as rubbish dumps despite being regularly inspected by local authorities.
Garbage is often dumped at many bus stops on Nguyen Xi and Dinh Bo Linh Streets in Binh Thanh District, and National Highway 1 in Thu Duc City, creating serious environmental issues in the southern metropolis.
The situation is the result of poor environmental awareness and competent authorities should enhance supervision through cameras and punishment, said Nguyen Ngoc Vu, a bus commuter.
A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport affirmed that dumps of trash at local bus stops have made it difficult for buses to pick up and drop off passengers, increasing the risk of traffic accidents in the area.
The representative stated that the center is responsible for managing infrastructure related to public transport activities by buses in Ho Chi Minh City.
The management of sidewalks falls under the jurisdiction of districts and Thu Duc City.
As a result, the center has reported the cases to local authorities.
Despite the efforts of Thu Duc City and the districts, the issue remains widespread.

The Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport has signed a cooperative memorandum with the municipal traffic police and the Transport Department's inspectorate to address the issue.
The center will also collaborate with Thu Duc City and the districts in the near future to inspect bus stops.
