Police in Tho Xuan District, Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam have arrested a three-man gang for stealing close to 100 dogs from local households in the past two weeks.
The trio were identified as Le Doan Thuc, 36, Le Duc Chung, 27, and Ngo Van Tuan, 40, all residing in Tho Xuan, the district’s police agency confirmed on Monday.
A police report showed that Thuc had conspired with Chung to steal dogs at night in lots of areas throughout the province in order to get money for their personal expenses.
To carry out the dog thefts, Thuc and Chung posed as night-time fishers or frog hunters to avoid detection.
They used electric prods or rope slings to capture dogs roaming the streets, then brought the animals to Tuan's home for sale.
On average, the gang stole between five and seven dogs each night, totaling around 50 kilograms.
Between August 1 and 17, they snatched approximately 100 dogs in districts such as Tho Xuan, Ngoc Lac, and Lang Chanh.
An investigation into the case is currently underway.
