Many readers of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper have reported cars being parked illegally on various roadbeds in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, hindering their travel and causing intense congestion, especially during peak hours.
These complaints highlight this is an ongoing problem, and readers are proposing local authorities take drastic actions to end the situation.
According to a reader named Phuong, the section of Bui Thi Xuan Street from Cach Mang Thang Tam Street to Ton That Tung Street in District 1 is like a mess with taxis forming two lines on the roadbed, impeding travel and posing danger to commuters.
Another reader reported that many streets in District 1 face the same fate.
“The situation has occurred for a long time, which easily catches the eye of passers-by," the reader said.

Many streets in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, such as Bui Thi Xuan, Nguyen Sieu, Thai Van Lung, Thi Sach, Pham Hong Thai, Hai Ba Trung, and especially Nguyen Du Streets, are often lined with cars parked on the roadbeds.
Bui Thi Xuan Street sometimes becomes an illicit parking lot of countless cars, forcing moving vehicles to encroach on the wrong lanes.
Whenever a car tries to park on the roadbed, many others behind them cannot move on, leading to congestion.
The section in front of Children’s Hospital 2 is a hotspot for lawless parking.

A representative of the administration in District 1 said that the district is taking measures to resolve the issue.
The district has fined many drivers, many of whom were transporting children to the hospital for medical check-ups. The hospital is under repair, so it has no available parking space.
Local authorities have installed signs prohibiting vehicle stops and parking, deployed officials to remind drivers of the rules, and issued fines to violators.
They will continue patrolling the area and enforcing penalties for infractions.
The district has fined 329 individuals over VND 230 million ($9,265) and penalized 97 coach drivers nearly VND 64 million ($2,578) for illegal parking and other violations from the beginning of the year through September, according to the District 1 People’s Committee.
