A drone that a local resident used to spray pesticides crashed into a 110kV power transmission line in Long An Province, located in southern Vietnam, causing a power blackout for 76,000 households and units in five districts across the province on Sunday.
The drone hit the Cai Lay - Tan Thanh power transmission line at 5:27 pm on Sunday.
As a result, 76,000 households and establishments in Tan Thanh, Moc Hoa, Vinh Hung, and Tan Hung Districts as well as Kien Tuong Town suffered a power outage.
The problem was not fixed until 10:41 pm on the same day.
Long An Power Company on Monday said that it was cooperating with the provincial Department of Industry and Trade to sanction the drone owner.
This year, the company has collaborated with 148 drone-owning customers, reminding them to prioritize power grid safety when operating their devices.
In addition, drone prohibition signs have been installed along 110kV power transmission lines in the province.
In Vietnam, drones are required to maintain a distance of at least 100 meters from high-voltage power lines, except for cases of maintaining and repairing the lines, pursuant to Article 4 of Decree 14/2014/ND-CP.
