The popular trekking route to Lang Biang Summit in Lac Duong District, Lam Dong Province has been temporarily closed following recent safety concerns caused by severe weather conditions.
Located 12km from Da Lat in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, Lang Biang Mountain is often called the 'Roof of Da Lat' and features two prominent peaks, Nui Ba at 2,167 meters and Nui Ong at 2,124 meters.
The Lang Biang Biosphere Reserve, spanning 275,439 hectares in the northern part of Lam Dong Province, was designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 2015, making it the first in the Central Highlands and the ninth in Vietnam.
The 10-12km trail to Lang Biang Peak (Nui Ba) winds through ancient pine forests.
On Thursday, the Lang Biang Tourism Area announced the trail closure, citing hazardous conditions caused by prolonged heavy rainfall.
Days of rain have made the trail treacherous, with landslides and fallen trees posing serious risks to hikers.
Officials also noted that thick fog and early sunsets further increase the likelihood of visitors becoming disoriented and getting lost.
To prevent visitors from attempting to trek the route, the Lac Duong District People’s Committee and Lang Biang Tourism Area have installed warning signs and wooden barriers at entry points.
At least 10 hikers have reportedly lost their way on Lang Biang Mountain since July, prompting search and rescue efforts.
While the 2,167-meter summit trail is temporarily shuttered, tours to the lower peak remain open and visitors can traverse the trail on guided sightseeing tours.
