This year’s Nguyen Hue Flower Street, a staple of the Lunar New Year holiday (Tet) in Ho Chi Minh City, will feature robots and the first metro line in the city, in addition to snake sculptures.

The Lunar New Year holiday (Tet) holiday begins late this month.

Truong Duc Hung, general director of Saigontourist Group and head of the flower street's organizing committee, on Tuesday evening revealed new features of the flower street this year.

He noted that 2025 marks the country’s many important events, so the flower street will spread meaningful messages.

Miniatures symbolizing the inaugural metro line in the city will be among highlights. They will mark the first operation year of the route and the city’s stride into the new era.

Another highlight of this year's flower street will be robust and charming robots named Bong (flowers). The robots’ faces will be LED screens displaying joyful expressions and wishes for the lunar new year.

An area for the Ho Chi Minh monument will be designed to be solemn, meaningful, imposing, and warm.

The main entrance of Nguyen Hue Flower Street was designed under the theme "Symphony of Unity.”

At the entrance to the flower street, a pair of snake mascots -- a male (Kim Ty) and a female (Ngan Ty) -- will take center stage.

The male is designed to measure 42 meters in length, while the female will be 25 meters long.

The snakes will coil gracefully into three loops, rising over six meters high.

Up to 70 percent of the materials for the two snake mascots will be eco-friendly.

Their heads and bellies will be blanketed with colored pressed cardboard, while their backs will be covered in reflective mica scales.

There will be some 2,700 scales on the female snake mascot and nearly 3,600 scales on the male. The scales will be installed manually and attached with an LED lighting system.

Their eyes will be 10 centimeters in diameter.

The street will be a harmonious blend of design and meaningful messages, creating a distinctive mark for this spring.

There will also be another large female snake mascot at the end of the flower street.

The design team has paid attention to details to turn snake mascots into lively and impressive artworks, Hung said.

Miniatures on the flower street will represent a dynamic and creative Ho Chi Minh City, Hung added.

Launched in 2004, Nguyen Hue Flower Street has become a highly-anticipated cultural symbol of Ho Chi Minh City during Tet and will be in its 22nd edition this year.

Saigontourist Group coordinates with local departments and agencies to construct and decorate the flower street under the direction of the municipal People’s Committee.

Construction and decorations for the flower street will begin at 7:00 am on January 9 and finish by 12:00 pm on January 27, using 109,000 baskets of different varieties of flowers.

Nguyen Hue Flower Street will open from 7:00 pm on January 27 to 9:00 pm on February 2.
