Chairman of Vietnam's lawmaking National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue and his Cuban counterpart Esteban Lazo Hernández reached a consensus on strengthening the two nations’ legislative cooperation and exchanging experience in legislation, heard a meeting between the two top legislators during Hue’s ongoing visit to Cuba.

The two officials also cut deals to set up the inter-parliamentary partnership and beef up the exchange of all-level delegations.

Apart from boosting the collaboration between the two legislatures, they also eyed the Cuba-Vietnam multifaceted relations.

Chairman of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba Hernández received his Vietnamese counterpart Hue and the latter’s entourage on Thursday evening.

Hue and a high-ranking delegation arrived in Cuba on Tuesday (local time), starting an official visit to the country at the invitation of Hernández.

His visit is set to last until Sunday.

This is the first high-ranking foreign delegation to visit Cuba after its national general election in March.

The top Cuban legislator affirmed that Cuba always attaches much significance to the partnership with Vietnam, and expects to deepen the bilateral ties.

At the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between agencies and departments of the two nations.

During their talks, Hue expressed his gratitude to Cuba for its sending medical workers to Vietnam to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic and donating to Vietnam medicine and five million Abdala vaccine doses.

On behalf of Vietnam’s Party Central Committee and the Vietnamese government, Hue awarded the Order of Ho Chi Minh to Hernández and presented the Friendship Order to some leaders of the Cuban National Assembly of People’s Power.

In addition, the Vietnamese legislator congratulated Hernández on being re-elected as chairman of the Cuban legislature.

Hue also invited Hernández to make a comeback to Vietnam as soon as possible.

The Vietnamese representative gave a book, 'Some Theoretical and Practical Issues on Socialism and the Path to Vietnam’s Socialism' written by Vietnam's Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong, to the Cuban National Assembly chairman. 

The top Cuban legislator congratulated Vietnam on its success in the fight against the pandemic and post-pandemic socio-economic recovery.

He also thanked Vietnam for supporting Cuba in its process of protecting, building, and developing the nation.

On the occasion of his visit, Hue, on behalf of Vietnam, announced a decision to donate 5,000 tonnes of rice and 300 tablet computers to the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba.

Moreover, Ho Chi Minh City vice-chairman Duong Anh Duc, a member of the Vietnamese National Assembly chairman’s entourage, on behalf of the city, gifted some VND5.9 billion (US$250,000) to Cuba to help the country address the consequences of a massive fire in Matanzas in August 2022.
