Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his spouse chaired a grand welcome ceremony at the highest level for Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse in Putrajaya, Malaysia’s administrative capital, on Thursday (local time).

Party chief Lam, his spouse, and a high-ranking delegation arrived in Kuala Lumpur at 11:00 am on Thursday, commencing their three-day official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of PM Ibrahim and his spouse.

Before the welcome ceremony, PM Ibrahim and his spouse greeted the Vietnamese Party chief and his spouse at the door of a car carrying the top Vietnamese official, and all of them headed toward a platform of honor.

Following the ceremony, the two leaders had official talks and witnessed the exchange of cooperation documents.

Vietnam and Malaysia established diplomatic ties on March 30, 1973, and set up a strategic partnership in August 2015.

Malaysia is Vietnam’s neighbor and a key strategic partner in Southeast Asia, as well as one of the latter’s priorities in diplomatic activities, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The Vietnamese Party chief’s official visit to Malaysia was expected to mark an important milestone for the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship, contribute to solidifying the political trust between the two nations, and show the consistent policy of the Vietnamese Party and state in deepening cooperation with regional countries, including Malaysia.

Vietnam hopes that the two countries will bring their ties to a new height and proactively build a strong and united ASEAN community.
